Position Summary

KJB Security Products, Inc. and Thompson's Station Hardware are seeking an experienced Accountant to manage all accounting and financial recordkeeping functions for the company. The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, managing sales tax filings, preparing financial statements, overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable, and coordinating directly with the Company's outside CPA and tax preparers.

The ideal candidate will have strong QuickBooks experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a growing business environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management

• Maintain the Company's general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Record and reconcile all financial transactions.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Perform bank, credit card, loan, and account reconciliations.
• Monitor cash flow and maintain accurate cash reports.
• Assist management with budgeting and financial planning.
• Prepare monthly financial reports for ownership and management review.

Accounts Payable

• Process vendor invoices and payments.
• Maintain vendor files and payment records.
• Monitor payment schedules and cash requirements.
• Resolve vendor billing discrepancies.

Accounts Receivable

• Generate customer invoices as needed.
• Monitor collections and outstanding balances.
• Maintain accurate customer account records.
• Research and resolve customer billing issues.

Payroll Administration

• Process payroll accurately and timely.
• Maintain payroll records and employee earnings information.
• Calculate payroll taxes and deductions.
• Process new employee payroll setup and changes.
• Prepare annual W-2 and 1099 reporting.

Sales Tax Compliance

• Prepare and file Tennessee sales tax returns.
• Maintain exemption certificates.
• Track taxable and non-taxable sales activities.
• Ensure compliance with all sales tax requirements.

Tax Preparation Support

• Serve as the primary liaison with the Company's CPA and tax preparers.
• Prepare year-end financial packages and supporting schedules.
• Assist with federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements.
• Provide documentation for audits and tax reviews.

Inventory & Retail Accounting

• Maintain inventory accounting records.
• Reconcile inventory valuations.
• Monitor cost of goods sold and gross margins.
• Assist with physical inventory counts and adjustments.
• Support retail reporting and analysis.

Qualifications

Required

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience.
• Strong proficiency with QuickBooks.
• Experience processing payroll.
• Experience filing sales tax returns.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with financial information.

Preferred

• Experience in retail or hardware store accounting.
• Experience with inventory accounting.
• Experience working with outside CPAs and tax professionals.
• Knowledge of Tennessee sales tax regulations.
